Tick Disease Analysis

How Much Does It Cost to Determine Which Diseases a Tick is Carrying?

When it comes to tick disease analysis, there are many factors that go into the cost of the procedure. The most important factor is the type of analysis that is done. Some tests are more comprehensive than others, and can provide a greater level of detail about the diseases a tick is carrying. We will explore some of the different types of tests and discuss how much the pricing is on average.

The first thing to consider is the type of tick that was collected. There are many different species of ticks, and each one can carry a different set of diseases. The most common type of tick in the United States is the deer tick, which can transmit Lyme disease, anaplasmosis, and babesiosis. If you have been bitten by a tick and are unsure of what kind it was, your doctor may recommend a test that looks for all three of these diseases. This test is called the Lyme Multiplex Assay, and it costs an average of $200.

If you know that the tick was a deer tick, your doctor may still recommend the Lyme Multiplex Assay. However, they may also recommend additional tests specific for Lyme disease. These tests are called the ELISA and the Western Blot, and they cost an average of $100 each.

In some cases, your doctor may recommend a test that looks for a specific disease-causing agent in the tick. This type of test is called a PCR test, and it can be used to detect bacteria, viruses, or parasites. PCR tests are usually more expensive than other types of tests, costing an average of $300.

Finally, your doctor may recommend a blood test to look for antibodies against the diseases carried by ticks. This type of test is called serology, and it can be used to confirm a diagnosis or rule out infection. Serology tests usually cost between $50 and $100.
